Drawing: A Confession

I cannot draw. While I consider myself very crafty, I have never been able to draw well. I am enrolled in a Mastering Twinks workshop this July with Dion Dior. The workshop explores the art of luminescent watercolor painting techniques. My understanding is that we will be sketching though, which has me feeling very apprehensive.

To quell my fears, I may enroll in Draw Happy, a mini drawing workshop with Jane Davenport. Online drawing lessons! Check out her beautiful work on this slideshow:

  1. You can do it. Practice by drawing a circle dividing it in half horizontally and then vertically. The nose goes in the center and an eye on each side on the horizontal line. People don't realize that our eyes are in the middle of our head. Lips underneath. You can erase the pencil lines after you have all the features drawn.

    1. Thank you for the help! Your right- I do not think of my eyes being the center.

  2. I am a much better illustrator now than I was when I graduated from art school. It really is just practice. I can draw an owl now in 10 seconds flat:) In my experience it helps to have a particular project to finish when you are trying to learn a new skill. You could set out to draw portraits of Daisy in every style that you can think of and do this over and over and over again.

    1. How funny you mention Daisy! Along with endlessly practicing faces, I have been also drawing Daisy over and over again. I am still not ready to share the drawings, but maybe soon . . .

Liam always looks at what I am drawing and offers critiques!
